Subset

Subset returns to Primary [colours] for a second solo outing, and this five-track EP is precisely the kind of patient, textured dub techno you'd expect from the Australian producer. The A-side features a Pugilist remix that sets the tone—spacious, deliberate, built on the kind of stripped-down principles that make dub techno rewarding over time rather than immediate.

Subset's approach here is methodical. These aren't tracks designed to overwhelm; they're constructed for depth. Each release on Primary [colours] seems to understand that dub techno works best when there's room to breathe, when reverb and delay become compositional tools rather than decoration. Five tracks is the right amount of material to let these ideas develop and settle.

This is the kind of record that rewards repeated listening, particularly if you're already attuned to the label's sensibilities around space, restraint, and the architectural possibilities of echo and repetition.
