Repress alert. This is the dub techno cornerstone from Moritz von Oswald's Maurizio alias, originally cut in 1995 for the M-Series and now back in circulation via this 2006 remastered edition. Essential listening for anyone serious about the deeper end of techno.
M4.5 sits at the intersection of dub and minimal techno, where space and restraint become the primary tools. Oswald's production here is characteristically precise but never clinical - the tracks breathe, they echo, they pull you into a state of focused listening. This is the sound that influenced a generation of producers working in stripped-back, hypnotic techno.
The Maurizio project represents some of the most forward-thinking work in German techno from the mid-90s onwards. If you're building a collection of foundational dub techno, this remaster makes it easier to hear why these records still matter.
