About this record
UK acid house classic from Baby Ford on Rhythm King, 1990. Beach Bump is a proper peak-time weapon - stripped-back acid house with that distinctive Rhythm King production sheen that made the label essential listening in the late 80s and early 90s. Ford's approach here is direct: crisp drums, rolling acid lines, the kind of track that still translates on a modern dancefloor.
The B-side, Wigan, shifts gear entirely, paying tribute to Wigan Casino - the legendary Northern Soul club that defined a generation. It's a respectful nod to the lineage connecting Northern Soul to acid house, two distinct British club cultures separated by decades but linked by that same restless energy.
Baby Ford was at the sharp end of UK house music throughout the 80s, and this single captures him working confidently within the acid house framework that dominated dancefloors by 1990. If you're building an acid house collection that actually means something, this one belongs.
