About this record
As house should be. Classic stompers from 1995, and rare stuff at that. Tony Varnado's second volume for Perfect Pair Records captures the essence of mid-90s garage house - stripped back, driving, unpretentious. These are tracks built to move a floor, not to impress in the studio.
Varnado's approach here is all about momentum and groove. The emphasis is on the fundamentals: tight drums, economical synth work, and the kind of low-end pressure that demands a decent sound system. Nothing wasted, nothing clever for its own sake.
Perfect Pair Records was never a label chasing trends. Hit-Hard Tracks Vol. 2 is exactly what the title promises - effective, purposeful house music from a moment when that still meant something concrete.
