About this record

Massive 5x12" box set on Ostgut Ton celebrating 16 years of the label and Berghain. 20 tracks across 40 artists, each record dedicated to a different floor of the club: Panorama Bar, Berghain, Halle, Garten, Lab.Oratory. This is the definitive document of the institution.

Ostgut Ton has always been about the room first, the sound second. This compilation reflects that philosophy perfectly. You get the full spectrum across five records - from the peak-time techno of Berghain's main floor to the ambient and experimental spaces, the breaks and EBM cuts, the pure abstraction. It's not a best-of in the conventional sense; it's a map of the spaces themselves.

An essential document for anyone who cares about what Berghain represents in underground electronic music. Whether you've been there or not, this box set is instructive - a portrait of how one club became a reference point for global techno culture.
