Ostgut Ton

Ostgut Ton is the in-house label of Berghain and Panorama Bar in Berlin, owned by the club and running since 2005. It was set up to give the clubs' residents an artistic and social home, and the earliest records came from residents like André Galluzzi, Cassy and Ben Klock. Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki, Prosumer, Tama Sumo and Nick Höppner have all been part of the story since, and over the years it has grown into one of the 21st century's most influential house and techno outlets.

While techno is its backbone, the catalogue reaches much further than that. Two sub-labels widen the scope: A-TON looks after the archive, ambient and more art-leaning material, while Unterton handles the experimental end. Between them the label takes in ambient, EBM, breaks and abstract electronics, always with the same care and identity. True to that ethos, it has stayed a vinyl-first operation throughout.

Its run wasn't unbroken, though. In 2021 Berghain's owners closed both the label and the Ostgut Ton booking agency, and for four years it went quiet. Then in 2025 it sprang back to life with Klubnacht 01, a various-artists compilation featuring Efdemin, Fadi Mohem, Steffi, Verraco, GiGi FM, Quelza and more, marking the label's twentieth anniversary and a welcome new chapter for one of the club's defining voices.

Right now we have the Fünfzehn + 1 compilation in store, a lovely example of how the label thinks. It is twenty tracks made in pairs, with each 12" dedicated to a different floor of the building: Ben Klock with Etapp Kyle, Dettmann with Norman Nodge, JASSS with Silent Servant, and so on.
