About this record
Raw, jackin', proto-house from the D.J. International stable. This is the sound of Chicago house before it got polished - Perez moving through four-on-the-floor fundamentals with the kind of stripped-back energy that defined the label's early 80s output. Jackin' grooves, minimal synth work, and a production philosophy that trusted the kick drum to do the heavy lifting.
D.J. International were crucial architects of house music's emergence, and this 1987 release sits right in that fertile period when the genre was still figuring out what it could be. Perez understood the dancefloor grammar - the hypnotic repetition, the gradual builds, the way a simple bassline could carry an entire side.
Essential 80s house. Sounds like Chicago.
