Carebears

Carebears deliver another quirky and sharply crafted slice of underground house music, joined by Tommy Vicari Jnr for a remix that fits the record's off-center spirit perfectly. Dry, minimal, playful.

The Pagemaster finds the Berlin-based outfit in familiar territory - skeletal drums, stripped-back synths, and an ear for the oddball detail that stops this from feeling clinical. There's restraint here, but also a wry sense of humour threading through the grooves. This is house music that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet lands with precision every time.

Vicari Jnr's remix reading respects the original's logic while pushing it sideways, maintaining that slightly askew energy that defines Carebears' approach. Convent 009 is exactly what you'd expect from the label - unvarnished, exploratory, built for rooms that reward close listening.
