Cabinet Records
Cabinet Records is one of Berlin's true OG techno and house labels, founded in the mid-90s by Daniel Paul alongside DJ Zky and DJ Trike. Early on, the label's releases were pressed and distributed through Plus 8's IntelliNET network.
IntelliNET was a Canadian distribution company and record network founded in 1995 by Richie Hawtin and his brother Matthew. It handled worldwide distribution for the Plus 8 stable and roughly 15 to 20 other underground electronic music labels.
Later Richie Hawtin himself returned to dig through the Cabinet archive for a retrospective compilation, calling it essential to the sound's development.
Over three decades and more than 70 releases, the label has stayed true to a stripped down, rough Berlin aesthetic, running through projects like Compass, Cab Drivers and Horseshoe.
The current catalogue spans dub house, dub techno, minimal house, deep house and tech house, with regulars like Daniel Paul, Trike, Phazer, Ed Herbst and Snad keeping the sound raw, dark and dancefloor-focused.
On Discogs, the label is consistently praised for top-tier mastering and pressing quality and for staying true to its identity for over 30 years running, still holding up the flag for that classic underground Berlin sound after all this time.
