Lara Fein has been quietly building one of Berlin's more distinctive musical perspectives, moving between obscure Japanese library records, German proto-electronic experiments, and the many branches of jazz in the crates, before bringing that accumulated feeling to the floor through the warmth and momentum of house music. In 2025 she co-founded the label A Strange Child alongside Skee Mask. For this week's mix she brought along her b2b partner Kiki, aka DJ Eivissa, and the two of them sat down together to map out their shared territory.
Tell us about this mix: what mood or journey were you going for?
My b2b partner Kiki (DJ Eivissa) and I were trying to represent our musical common ground, taking into consideration that we're not playing in a party environment but still presenting music that could work for listening at home and give you an idea of what to expect if you catch us playing.
Where and how did you put it together?
We met at my place and played records to each other, practised with a certain pre-selection, and then showed up at SEVEN.
Pick one track in here you cannot stop playing right now, and why.
DJ Ali, "Ali's Ghetto Style Dub". It's just a dancefloor weapon for me, tooly but not boring, and you can play it fast or slow. Works perfectly.
When and where should people listen to this?
For me, music doesn't need a specific time or place to work. I listen to whatever, whenever, wherever. No occasion required. Can recommend.
What is your connection to SEVEN or to Berlin?
My first contact with SEVEN was receiving a beautifully packaged order, where you could feel the passion of the people running it.
A record that changed everything for you?
Miles Davis, "Kind of Blue".
Vinyl, CDJs, or both, and why?
Both. I'm addicted to digging: the research, the physicality of records, what they demand of you technically. And I'm lucky enough to have a setup at home to actually practise on. That's irreplaceable. But when it comes to DJing I feel free with a hard drive of music spanning 1960 to now in my pocket: edits, rips of rarities, things that never made it to wax. Mostly I play vinyl rips. For me, the best of both worlds.
Where can people catch you next?
When this stream goes online I'll be playing b2b with my dearest Bennet and DJ Sweet6teen for Research at Gewölbe, Köln.
Lara's mix with DJ Eivissa is up now. Give it time and space, on whatever speaker you have to hand. Follow her on SoundCloud, Instagram, and Resident Advisor to keep up with what she plays next.
