Tarkno is Jamie Simon, an Australian-born DJ and producer now based in Berlin, where his Lethal Loops imprint and connections to the vinyl-only collective shockwerk have placed him firmly in the city's underground.
His sets move at high speed through hardgroove and tribal and samba techno, often threaded with unusual vocal samples. His approach is strictly vinyl-only and groove-centric, and he frequently performs across multiple turntables, treating the format itself as a compositional tool rather than a delivery mechanism.
Lethal Loops is his own label, created specifically as an outlet for locked grooves, with two copies recommended for DJs to enable beat juggling, flanging and phasing. The first instalment of the series paired him with The Sixth Sense, the two contributing 24 locked grooves rooted in the sound of old-school techno. The second brought in JSPRV35 as a partner, again across 24 loops and pushing forward what the label describes as classic, golden-era techno. Each release is hand-stamped and limited in copies. Release three on the label was a colab with UK legend Mark Broom.
Beyond the imprint, his releases have landed on Index Marcel Fengler, Emerald and Frenzy Recordings. The "Past Voices EP" on Index Marcel Fengler was a joint record with The Sixth Sense, and his "After Hours EP" on Frenzy and "Sketches EP Part 1" with Remco Beekwilder on Emerald have continued to widen his release profile. He also contributed to the Agora Wax 01 compilation alongside KUSS, Bailey Ibbs, RUIZ OSC1 and JKS. He is connected to shockwerk, a Berlin vinyl-only collective and had a regular back to back DJ routine with his friend Slin.
Fun Fact: Jamie, CRYME, Slin. and SEVEN co-founder Glenn Elliott all originally met at the now defunct Berlin artist booking agency Distinkt. When Jamie moved to Berlin he lived in Glenn's spare room for half a year while he settled in and found his feet. The friends continue to colab with SEVEN running Bandcamp dispatch for Lethal Loops and Jamie is a regular in the SEVEN office.
