Snad

Snad is the alias of Shyam Anand, a producer and DJ born near Philadelphia, USA who now lives in Berlin.

He also records under the alias Spandrel, and has carved out a position at the intersection of minimal, tech house and deep house, adjusting the balance between those modes from one production to the next while keeping a consistent talent for subtly hypnotic grooves.

Anand started making music at fourteen in a bedroom near Philadelphia. He later spent time based in Chicago before moving to Berlin, and now lives a semi-nomadic life, moving between Philadelphia, Berlin, Goa and Mexico while steadily expanding his discography.

He works from a hardware-based studio, with his production technique centred on creating melodic, functional club music. Alongside his solo work, Anand is a third of the group Mothership and a co-founder of We R The Aliens Records. The Spandrel alias also doubles as his self-run imprint, which has issued the Spandrel LP across two volumes on vinyl. The Spandrel project extends the stripped and hypnotic side of his sound, leaning into techy, hypnotic house.

On record, his discography spans labels including Smallville, Minibar, 20:20 Vision, Phonica AM, TerraFirm, Running Back, Cabinet, Kimochi and Dungeon Meat, with remixes for artists including Seafoam and Chez Damier. Key releases include the "Nandri" EP on Feuilleton, "Excerptz" on Smallville, "The Most Euphoric Moment of My Life" on Running Back, the "Avoidance" EP on Chez Damier's Courtesy of Balance, and the "Vasadhi" EP on Kimochi. His "Bubblescope" EP, released in December 2024 via Smallville, is among his most recent work under the Snad name.

His debut on Feuilleton delivered four minimalistic house tracks with a considerable jazz influence. In the studio he has also worked with Jakob Seidensticker of Wareika and Boronas, the three releasing music together as Mothership.
