Robin Ordell

Robin Ordell is a French-born DJ and producer who grew up in Nice before moving to East London in 2007. He came up around funk in the south of France, carrying an affinity for the French house style of the 90s and a love of deeper German minimal, and landed in London at an exciting moment in its history. His music has been shaped by three cities ever since: Nice, London and Berlin.

In London he became a stalwart of Half Baked, the legendary East London Sunday party, where he was a resident alongside Greg Brockmann and Hamid and shared floors with the likes of Seuil, Craig Richards and Maayan Nidam. The party's label, Half Baked Records, gave his productions an early home, including the "JC EP," and he had already made a name with "The Show," a bouncy slice of deep house built around a sampled Moodymann lecture. A penchant for jazz runs through all of it, lending his grooves a soulful, improvised feel, with bassy tones, infectious breaks and warm loops sitting alongside touches of minimal experimentation.

Over the years his records have appeared on labels like Eklo, Finest Hour, Subsequent and the Ukrainian imprint Wicked Bass, where his EP "Through The Motions" found him in real party mode, layering old-school video-game synths over punchy tech-funk. He also works as one half of Asper Bothrops, a duo with Bruno Schmidt.

More recently he has poured all that experience into his own label, No Time County. Pressed in Germany, it reflects the harder, more functional direction his sound has taken since his London years, moving from funk-inflected deep house towards acid, electro and progressive club tools, while keeping the rhythmic finesse and soulful underpinning that have always defined him. Releases like the "Nameless Salesmen" and "Civic TV" EPs show where he is now.
