About this record
Early trance from 1995. The O.T. Quartet's 'Hold That Sucker Down' is a promo 12" that captures that precise moment when trance was still finding its edges - hypnotic, driving, unpolished in the best way. Released on Cheeky Records at the genre's inception, this is the sound of producers pushing repetition and rhythm into something that felt genuinely new.
The O.T. Quartet were operating in those formative years when progressive trance was less a defined subgenre and more a direction of travel. What separates this from the sanitised trance that would dominate clubs five years later is the rawness - the refusal to over-produce, the space left for the track to breathe. This is functional music designed for believers, not casual listeners.
A legitimate document of early-90s trance architecture, before the sound became ubiquitous. If you're after the blueprint rather than the photocopy, this matters.
