About this record

Already shaping up as one of the year's essential releases. Makam - the Amsterdam legend also known as Talisman - delivers something genuinely special here on Dekmantel: a full-length exploration of dub-informed house and techno that refuses easy categorization.

This is deep, thoughtful stuff. Makam's command of spatial design and low-end pressure is on full display across the LP, with tracks that sit somewhere between the dubwise principles of classic reggae dub and the precision of contemporary tech-house and dub techno. There's weight here, but also restraint - nothing's wasted, everything breathes.

Dekmantel's been a consistent platform for this kind of uncompromising underground thinking, and this record exemplifies why. Essential.
