Absolute classic Kompakt release. Jürgen Paape doing Kölsche minimal at its best - stripped down, rebuilt, destroyed until it sounds nice again. That's the Kompakt ethos right there.
The A-side is all tension and release, minimal structures that somehow feel massive. The B-side samples the melody line from Miles Davis's "Mystery," giving it a deep, almost orchestral weight despite the sparse arrangement. This is minimal house music that knows how to breathe.
From 1998, when Kompakt was establishing itself as something different - not the obvious Frankfurt techno move, but something more architectural, more patient. Paape's work sits right in that sweet spot where reduction becomes expansion.
