About this record
Four-tracker from Cignol on Lick My Deck's SkunkWorks sub-label, and Retiant is the standout here. UK electro and acid done with real invention rather than retro genuflection.
Cignol's approach sits somewhere between the crystalline synthesis of classic British electro and the raw, percussive acid that's always lurked in the underground. These tracks feel lived-in rather than polished, with enough friction in the sound design to reward close listening. Retiant especially locks into a groove that feels simultaneously stripped-back and intricate.
SkunkWorks continues to be the place where Lick My Deck explore the sharper end of their A+R instincts. This is properly underground stuff - functional on the dance floor but dense enough that you'll find something new each time you play it.
