Georgia Bird arrived in Berlin carrying roots in Naarm/Melbourne and a well-earned reputation built through her Neurotiq Erotiq events, a residency at Revolver Upstairs, and festival appearances at Pitch Music & Arts and Strawberry Fields. As co-founder of Phenomena Records and one half of IN2STELLAR, community and collaboration have always shaped how she works. Her debut solo EP, Bird On The Wire, pulls on dub techno, liquid drum and bass and ambient textures for something quieter and more personal, and that same careful, feeling-led approach runs straight through this mix.
Tell us about this mix: what mood or journey were you going for?
I've been really into tracks with more hardware-sounding elements and robotic bleepy sounds, but that still maintain a groove. The mix represents a lot of music I've been playing in my sets at the club.
Where and how did you put it together?
I planned the track list at home over the space of a few weeks, compiling all of my favourite tracks from recent DJ sets. Then I recorded the mix live at the SEVEN record store.
Pick one track in here you cannot stop playing right now, and why.
"God Is Love" by Submeditation. I just love everything they do. I think I play one of their tracks in every set. Emotional, dubby techno: it's exactly the sound I'm obsessed with at the moment.
When and where should people listen to this?
I think it'd be a fun set to listen to before the club with your friends having a drink.
What is your connection to SEVEN or to Berlin?
I've been a fan of SEVEN through their label and showcases. They're championing really exciting local artists in Berlin.
Vinyl, CDJs, or both, and why?
I would love to play vinyl again. I sadly left around 600 records in Australia when I moved to Berlin. I'm slowly building the collection back up and I'm keen to bring them over. For now I'm just on CDJs.
If you could keep only three records, which?
Submeditation Box Music, James K Friend, and Sunkissed Aquamarine.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on my next EP, maybe something a bit dubby and downtempo.
