Baka G brings her “Blue Spirit” to our latest release

SEVEN’s first Various Artists compilation, SEVENVA01, is a celebration of underground, progressive house music in all its forms. One of the standout tracks comes from DJ and producer Baka G.

Who is Baka G?

With a sound that flows across deep house, progressive, and afro house, Brussels-based Baka G is a young artist bringing an open-minded and playful approach to her music.

“I started music school when I was four, learning the violin and immersing myself in classical music. At home, my parents played disco, funk, jazz, and soul—music was always part of my life.”

As a teenager, her musical tastes broadened from classical. She discovered indie rock, electronic music, and dance music. Around this time, she started experimenting with electronic music and making her own tracks.

“Moving to Paris for art school introduced me to clubbing, so focusing on house music just made sense. It connected so many of the sounds I loved during those years.”

What inspired “Blue Spirit”?

Baka G’s track on SEVENVA01 is called ‘The Blue Spirit’—an energetic, dancefloor-ready production with a mysterious and mischievous edge.

Inspired by one of her favourite films, Avatar: The Last Airbender, the track takes its name from the alter ego of the character Zuko, whose journey of honour and redemption really resonated with her.

Baka G described Avatar: The Last Airbender as “one of those comfort movies I can watch again and again on a Sunday morning.”

She loved Zuko’s character development and wanted to capture in sound the ideas Zuko’s character embodies: movement, transformation.

“His laugh in the film stuck with me, so I sampled it. You can hear it in the track.”

“I’m really happy with how ‘The Blue Spirit’ turned out. It was so much fun to produce, and I think it works as a high-energy dancefloor tool.”

How Baka G produced ‘The Blue Spirit’

Baka G’s production style is hands-on and intuitive, starting with sound design on her synths and building her tracks from the ground up.

“I always start with a sound I love, then jump into sound design to shape it. Then I create a chord progression, lay down drums, and finish with the bassline. By then, I have a loop that works on its own and I can focus on arranging the track—adding effects, smoothing transitions, and fine-tuning the groove.”

Bass and groove are central to her sound. She approaches them with a live, improvisational feel rather than relying on pre-made sequences or samples.

“I like starting with melodies and chords, then building the bassline around them. I don’t use pre-made loops. I prefer to improvise my basslines with my synth so they feel natural. Once the bass is in place, I tweak the drums so they complement each other and enhance the groove.”

What is your music like?

While “The Blue Spirit” leans into a deep, rolling energy, Baka G isn’t tied to one particular sound.

She likes to experiment with different subgenres of house and even plays around with indie rock, RnB, and neo-soul in her music.

“I don’t want to restrict myself to one vibe. I like to keep a playful approach to production. For me, creativity isn’t just about making music. It comes from all kinds of experiences, like cooking, drawing, writing, even going for a walk. Anything that lets my mind to run free helps expand my creativity.”

Why did you choose SEVEN?

Working with a label like SEVEN—which has a mission of supporting FLINTA* and queer artists—feels important to her.

Being a queer and mixed-race woman in a music scene that often sidelines FLINTA* and nonwhite people has shaped her beliefs. She feels it’s important for nightlife workers at every level of the industry to make sure they are holding space for everyone—not just those who look and sound like them.

“The music scene, and society in general, still stigmatizes and ostracizes so many people.”

“Having labels like SEVEN that actively uplift FLINTA* and queer artists is powerful. It gives me hope. I’m honoured to release a track on a label that represents me and my values.”

Beyond her work as a DJ and producer, Baka G is actively involved in creating spaces for underrepresented artists.

She is part of Les Volumineuses, a Brussels-based collective that works to give more visibility to FLINTA and queer artists in the music industry.

Baka G thinks so much needs to change in this industry—we need more inclusivity and more opportunities for FLINTA and queer artists, not just as DJs and producers but as technicians, promoters, and programmers.

“We need safer spaces in nightlife, more care and awareness around mental health, and more support for artists so they don’t have to struggle financially.

With her commitment to pushing boundaries and keeping things fluid, Baka G is an artist to watch and one we are proud to release on SEVEN.
