Fred Nasen

Fred Nasen is the alias of Belgian producer and label operator Frederic Naessens, based in Antwerp. His roots are in the Belgian club circuit of the 1990s, where early residencies pushed him from clubby house toward the darker, more mechanical sound he would make his own.

The turning point came when he took a position at N.E.W.S. Records, a leading dance distribution company in the Benelux where he worked for fourteen years, with first sight on all new releases and different genres - an influence that ran deep into his career as a producer and A&R. Exposure to the London scene, particularly the sound being shaped at The End by Mr. C, pulled his production work toward tech house, and it is there that his output found its identity.

In Belgium, Nasen was the central figure of tech house, operating Visitor Records, which released over forty records between 2000 and 2006. The debut release, "Sunday Visitor" (2000), co-produced with Dimitri De Wever, set the tone: rolling, textured tech house with a melodic undertow. The catalogue drew in artists including Eddie Richards, Silverlining, Mark Ambrose, Terry Francis and Nathan Coles. His own releases on the imprint - the "Get Down E.P." (2002), "On The Rocks" (2003) and "Gravity" (2006) - charted the evolution of the label's sound from deep, hypnotic tech house toward tougher, more driving territory.

He subsequently founded a second label, Dogtown Records, signing artists including Eddie Richards, Nathan Coles, Guy J, Nick Chacona and Daso. Dogtown was conceived as a platform for fresh talent, with a sound ranging from electro and techno through to progressive house and beyond. In 2026, Visitor celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with a vinyl EP series revisiting key catalogue cuts, returning Nasen's formative productions to wax for a new generation of listeners.
