AKA Tim Schumacher, Karl Kraut
DJ Normal 4 is Tim Schumacher, a producer and DJ based in Mülheim in Germany's Ruhr Area. He grew up close to Düsseldorf, amongst the dusty factory skeletons and abandoned machine complexes of a formerly thriving industrial region, and that landscape feeds directly into his signature sound: broken industrial dreams shot through with escapist rave fantasies.
Over the years he has carved out a retro-future world of his own, where tribal rhythms, breakbeats, techno, acid, Goa and trance all converge. His records have appeared on labels like Warning, Klasse Wrecks, Emotional Response, Dekmantel, ESP Institute and Candomblé, and he is a founding member and co-creator of Aiwo rec. Recent releases like "A Shrooman Being," "Red Gobbo" and "Melusine" capture that kaleidoscopic, endlessly moving feel he does so well, each one a bit of a portal to somewhere else.
In 2019 the artist admitted to sexually assaulting women at a Monkey Sounds gig in Bristol. He apologised, withdrew from several events, and committed to stop drinking and using substances.
