BELLA is a Dutch DJ and producer based in Amsterdam. She works in house and tech house, and her sound draws on a clear love of nineties dance music, pulling in threads of acid, electro and prog to build tracks that feel rooted in an older sensibility without being nostalgic for its own sake.
She came to production relatively recently, and her debut release made an immediate impression. As an emerging Dutch DJ and producer, BELLA became the first new artist to release on Sally C's Big Saldo's Chunkers imprint, with the "Note to Self" EP serving as her debut production. The connection between the two came about when Sally C played a festival in Amsterdam in summer 2022, and the pair ended up playing an impromptu back-to-back that day.
BELLA subsequently sent Sally her early productions, and Sally connected so deeply with the tracks that they formed the backbone of her debut artist EP on the label. The EP takes in influences from nineties house, acid, electro and prog, with a hard-to-pin-down energy that gives the tracks a particular swing.
The title track is driven by old-school drums, a rapid-fire vocal and a pair of synth lines - one uplifting, the other carrying an eighties sheen. Olsvangèr stepped up for remix duties on "Odd Symphony," delivering a rework that moves from upbeat house into perkier rave territory.
Around the time of the release, BELLA also joined Sally C for a set on Refuge Worldwide in April 2024. Still in the early stages of her production career, she is a figure to watch from the Amsterdam underground, with a sound that is already more considered and individual than the house norm.
BELLA has a track Sarris Sickness" on the Layer's VA release LAY002 "which is well worth checking out.
