About this record

Angel Bat Dawid's debut LP remains a singular achievement: every instrument, every voice, every layer recorded solo on her phone across Chicago, London and Cape Town. What emerges is a spiritual jazz transmission that feels like overhearing conversations with the divine. Highly sought-after and long out of print, this reissue finally makes it accessible again.

Dawid moves between alto saxophone, flute, harmonium and layered vocals with the ease of someone channelling rather than composing. There's no studio gloss here - the phone recordings give everything an intimate, almost ceremonial quality. The Oracle sits somewhere between Pharoah Sanders's cosmic journeys and the contemporary spiritual jazz revival, but it's distinctly her own vision: meditative, unflinching, occasionally unsettling.

International Anthem's reissue restores what should never have disappeared. Essential.
