Born in China and now rooted in Berlin, Haozi moves between worlds: rolling, hypnotic DJ sets that build tension into something genuinely physical, and the Seafood collective, a queer community project built on urgency and shared release. Under his producer alias hào, he works in darker rhythmic territory, with releases on A7A Records and more on the way. This mix catches him in a sunnier mood.
Tell us about this mix: what mood or journey were you going for?
I wanted the set to feel like a warm, colourful summer afternoon with friends, loose, earthy, and full of movement. Leaning into tribal percussions and flowing grooves, it's like dancing in the sunlight somewhere between a jungle gathering and a daytime party, surrounded by beautiful souls.
Where and how did you put it together?
On my home decks, and during my tour to Portugal earlier this summer. I love how travelling can inspire me all the time.
Pick one track in here you cannot stop playing right now, and why.
Saoirse - Chubby. I love it for the driving low-end groove, very subtle.
When and where should people listen to this?
On a bright afternoon, a daytime outdoor gathering or backyard grill. It could also be nice to listen to during a late-night jog.
What is your connection to SEVEN or to Berlin?
I only got to know SEVEN not long ago, when the record store launched this year. On the opening day I immediately fell in love with this space and the crew, and it's such a pleasure to do this mix here!
Vinyl, CDJs, or both, and why?
For me, both together gives the sound more texture. Digital lets me pull in fresh, unreleased cuts and shape them very precisely, while the vinyl side brings that raw, living warmth and slight imperfection.
A hidden gem from your collection most people have not heard?
Xiaolin - Breath of Water.
The first record you ever bought?
Daft Punk - Digital Love.
If you could keep only three records, which?
Daft Punk - Digital Love, Rhythim Is Rhythim - The Beginning, and Sainkho Kosmos - The Echo Of Old Fairytale.
Put this one on in the garden, on a long run, or wherever the afternoon takes you. Find the mix on SoundCloud, follow Haozi on Instagram, and catch his full profile on Resident Advisor.
