Paul Cut
From France, based in Lisbon, Portugal
AKA Paul Cuvillier
Paul Cut is the alias of Paul Cuvillier, a DJ, producer and keyboardist from France, now based in Lisbon. He has been a consistent presence in the French house scene for well over a decade, with a body of work that draws on early Chicago house, deep house and funk-driven tech house.
His most longstanding label home is D.KO Records, the Parisian imprint with which he released the "Split Shit EP" alongside LB aka LABAT, the "Ma Pauvre Cousine EP" and the "LF11D EP." He has also released on Popcorn Records, including the "Brooklyn Lady EP," which arrived with a remix by Leo Pol and was received warmly by the likes of Moodymann and Mr G. His 2024 "Memorize Your Face EP" on Automatic Writing brought three tracks bridging early Chicago house and UK tech house influences, with a remix by Aline Umber.
In 2025 he made his debut on Bass Culture Records, the Paris-rooted label run by D'julz, with the "Second Nature EP." He has further appeared on Ondulé Recordings, AirFunk and Dandynation Records, and has recorded for Inner Balance alongside the Lisbon-based producer Jorge Caiado on their "C&C Sessions Vol.1."
Beyond solo production, Cuvillier has contributed as a live keyboardist to Secret Value Orchestra, the live band associated with D.KO Records. He also operates a band project called Late&Cie with Guillaume Val for Mesma Records. His profile grew considerably after touring in 2019 with Larry Heard, known as Mr Fingers, one of the founding voices of Chicago house, playing keys in Heard's live show.
As a DJ, his most-played clubs on record include Badaboum, Sacré, Djoon, Rex Club and Le Kilowatt, all in France, with the regions of Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Nantes featuring regularly alongside appearances in Lisbon, where he is now settled and continues to collaborate with Jorge Caiado. His sound stays close to the functional end of house: grooved, warm and rooted in the music he clearly grew up with, without reaching for anything unnecessarily ornate.
