Ciel
she/her · DJ, Producer
From China, based in Toronto, Canada
Ciel first played Globus at Tresor in Berlin and Basement NYC in 2025, then Horoom at Bassiani in Tbilisi and FOLD in London (both 2026).
Ciel was born in Xi'an, China and is based in Toronto, Canada. She threw her first party in 2015 and released her debut EP, Electrical Encounters, on Peach Discs in 2017, setting the tone for a busy and wide-ranging career in electronic music.
Her solo productions have appeared on a number of respected labels, including Coastal Haze, Ghostly's Spectral Sound and !K7 Records, as well as Eris Drew's vinyl-only imprint, where she contributed Ecstatic Editions vol. 1 as its premiere release. Her 2023 debut album Homesick stands as a particular milestone, one she took on the road as a live show throughout 2024. Collaborative work has been just as varied: a delicate EP with Kilig, the driving Lunagenesis with Priori as Loopchasers, bass and breaks excursions with Dan Only as Cloudsteppers, and looser, murkier records with CCL and D.Tiffany. Remixes for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Jacques Greene, Seb Wildblood and others round out a catalogue that moves comfortably across styles and moods.
As a DJ, Ciel is at home threading together downtempo, psychedelic techno, UK bass, speed garage and much more within a single set. She has played at fabric, Robert Johnson, Berghain Panorama Bar, Nowadays, Hot Mass and Smartbar, among others, and at festivals including Draaimolen, Dimensions, Movement Detroit and MUTEK.
Away from the decks and studio, Ciel runs her own label, hosts radio and is currently organising with Toronto's chapter of Writers Against the War on Gaza. Her commitment to equity and social justice in electronic music is central to everything she does, and it is something that clearly resonates with the community around her.
